Chantelle Ball, MKin, CSCS, CSEP-CEP
Like most, Chantelle originally applied to the University of Calgary’s undergraduate kinesiology program with her sights set on physiotherapy school. Growing up, her parents had always encouraged an active lifestyle, so kinesiology felt like the most natural choice for post-secondary. In her second year of her bachelor’s, Chantelle volunteered at a physiotherapy clinic and quickly realized that it wasn’t the right career path for her.
After graduating with her Bachelor of Kinesiology in 2017, Chantelle took a gap year to gain some work experience before returning to school to pursue her master’s degree. During this time, she worked as a personal trainer at a women’s-only gym. Aside from having no idea what to do next, Chantelle chose the Master of Kinesiology (MKin) program at the University of Calgary because she wanted to deepen her knowledge of exercise physiology and gather more experience and connections in the field. What she didn’t expect, but thought was the most valuable aspect of all, was the incredible support system that she found in her fellow MKin cohort.
During her time in the program, Chantelle had numerous different hands-on learning opportunities, including: volunteering for an inpatient neuro rehabilitation exercise program, working as a teaching assistant for undergraduate kinesiology courses, a strength & conditioning practicum placement at the Olympic Oval with development level speed skaters, and a practicum placement with Vital Strength and Physiology focused primarily on movement assessment. With more experience under her belt, Chantelle decided that she wanted to pursue a career in the sports performance side of exercise physiology.
After graduating with her master’s degree, Chantelle worked for a summer at the Canadian Sport Institute Calgary in their exercise physiology lab, where she ran and assisted with a variety of tests on national team level athletes. She also accepted a contract role with Vital Strength and Physiology writing training programs for endurance athletes of all levels.
Chantelle currently works full time at Bold Athlete as the lead for the company’s testing and data analysis, as well as a strength and conditioning coach working primarily with youth athletes.
If not at work or in the gym, you can find Chantelle having a blast outdoors or curled up on the couch watching trashy reality TV.
