Christine Trac, MKin, CSCS, CSEP-CPT
Christine’s journey into kinesiology started back when she was completing a sports medicine class in high school. She was fascinated with how the human body works and how much force the body can generate. So she pursued a BSc in Kinesiology with a minor in Adaptive and Therapeutic Physical Activity at the University of Calgary.
Throughout Christine’s undergraduate degree, she had the opportunity to do eight practicum placements, where she gained experience working with individuals of a variety of ages and abilities. These were valuable learning components to her degree which allowed her to gain and apply immense knowledge and experience in exercise physiology.
After completing her degree, Christine took a gap year to prepare for the 2019 World Championships for powerlifting. During this time, she also continued to pursue opportunities to promote physical activity to individuals with a variety of chronic health conditions. This led her to volunteer with Alberta Health Services, University of Calgary active living programs, ARBI, and powerlifting meets. She also interned at a sports clinic where she helped a variety of athletes with their treatments including competitive basketball players, Para-hockey athletes, and recreational athletes. From these experiences, Christine took a holistic approach as a CSEP-CPT and assistant powerlifting coach, paying extra attention to the importance of nutrition and injury prevention. This prompted her to obtain additional certifications including NSCA-CSCS, Precision Nutrition Level 1 and becoming a Fascia Stretch Therapist.
During her gap year, she had the opportunity to connect with and was inspired by U of C Master of Kinesiology (MKin) alumni such as Jeff Osadec, Carla Robbins and Nicole Bewski to pursue an MKin degree and enhance her skills as a strength coach. Christine wanted to pursue an MKin degree at the University of Calgary (U of C) to learn from great scholars who have taught and mentored elite strength and conditioning coaches and exercise physiologists. During Christine’s time as an MKin student, She completed practicum placements with The Strength Guys, Kinetic Advantage Consulting, and Decaman.
After completing the MKin, Christine decided to take a break from kinesiology because thinking about health and fitness 24/7 left her feeling burnt out. She took on a role as a full-time freelance writer for a company that writes content and copywriting for fitness and business development companies. On the side, Christine also works as an online strength coach training powerlifters and strength enthusiasts.
